Nature Boy: A journey of birdsong & belonging

Tuesday, 14 October 2025
About this event
Ornithologist Seán Ronayne from Cobh, Co. Cork is on a remarkable mission: to record the sound of every bird species in Ireland - nearly 200 in all. With his partner Alba, he ventures to some of the country’s most remote and beautiful places: the seabird colony of Skellig Michael, a quiet woodland in the Burren, Tory Island’s corncrakes, and the windswept uplands of Donegal.
In this richly illustrated talk, Seán shares the sounds, stories, and struggles of Ireland’s birds while revealing how his hypersensitivity to sound has shaped his life. Inspiring, moving, and deeply human, his journey shows us how listening connects us to nature, to ourselves, and to what truly matters.
